Choosing The Right Red Lipstick For You

It’s written into history, that classic statement of the red lip, but which shade is right for you? Firstly I just want to put it out there that you can wear which ever shade you flipping well want to! However, if you are looking for a little more guidance and understanding, hopefully this will make the choice of your next lipstick selection a little easier.

Undertones

It’s all in the undertones. We all have undertones in our skin, wether they be warm or cool. Colours also have undertones and this includes the colours of our lipstick. Wearing the same lipstick undertone as our skin undertone can be a match made in heaven, so cool skin works well with cool lipstick, and warm skin works well with warm lipstick.

So Which Undertone Are You?

Cool undertones -Your natural hair colour tends to be black, ashy brown or icy blond. You most likely burn instead of tan in the sun. You think Silver jewellery looks best on you. When wearing white, your skin has a pinky/blue tint.

Warm undertones - Your natural hair colour tends to be brown, golden blonde, auburn or red. You tend to tan and not burn in the sun. You think gold jewellery looks best on you. When wearing white, your skin has a yellow/golden/peachy tint.

Neutral undertones - You tend to tan more then burn in the sun. You think silver and gold jewellery both look good on you. When wearing white, you cannot identify any pinky/blue or yellow/golden/peachy tints to your skin, this means you have a mix of both.

Other Things to Look Out For

So you have decided which shade of red lipstick suits you, now you can decide on the finish of the lipstick - cream, matt or gloss. A cream lipstick is good if you don’t like the feeling of having too much on your lips and its forgiving if you rub your lips together a lot. A matt lipstick offers a timeless finish and has a tendency to stay put for longer, though you need to make sure your lips are not dry before applying. A gloss can add a real high shine effect and take the lipstick to the next level of dazzle.

Top Tips…

-Remove any dryness from your lips with a wet tooth brush before applying your chosen red lip

-Once applied, suck your finger to remove any lipstick from the inner of your lips, this will most likely end up on your teeth so best to get rid!

-It’s said that cool reds make your teeth appear whiter…

At the end of the day, wear the shade that makes you feel nice, and on the days where it counts… makes you feel like a million dollars.
